Botak's law

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/10/17/nation/2300354&sec=nation

i have always taught that our home minister can make any statement funnier than the one he made about detention of the journalist under ISA to "protect her". But he did. Maybe a new responsibility of the Home ministry is "to be able to make malaysia a laughing stock in the whole world"

What is he thinking i really don't know. No wonder the criminals nowadays are braver than the policeman.
Just 1 thing...i always look forward for any statements from the home minister (especially when i'm stressed) because what he say really make me laugh my innards out.

Maybe we should set up a Happiness & laughter Ministry and let him head it :)

Moody

some way or another, dispassion start to sink into me this few days.
I have to force myself to smile. i am not interested in whatever my housemates are doing. While writing this post, my housemates are all busy gazing at their monitor screen "aiyo hen mei leh zhe ge,174cm leh" says one but i dunno why i am simply not interested to join them like i usually do.
I tried to entertain myself by disturbing my best friend,my ex roommate but that doesn't work either. He will end up scolding me for "molesting" him and this will hurt me even more.

I dunno what am i thinking right now. I simply feel like there;s no meaning to be nice or to be cheerful etc. Theres no colour in life at all.

Possibly, i should just follow my head, be the serious muka masam fella that i used to be. This way, maybe i would be free.

Policy

Just look at our SMART government policy in hiring staffs now
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/10/3/nation/2176309&sec=nation

and the downfall of our education policy is clear
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/10/4/nation/2185275&sec=nation

In the first report, Johor Immigration new policy in hiring staffs is: Give priority to staff's kin. Means the Johor Immigration, sooner or later, will be dominated by members of a family. On what basis does the immigration implement this stupid ridiculous nepotism? Are the kin of the staffs better qualified? From what aspect? Just as our dear Pak Lah go around shouting "NO NEPOTISM!, here one department is encouraging nepotism and cronysm. I wonder whether is this a KJ idea.

In the second report, now suddenly everybody is againts teaching of maths and science in English. 5 years ago, everybody support, 5 years later everybody againts. The reason? "o...the result we get is not as good as we expected, so cancel the policy la...". So, our government is sending a clear message to students from all level of education. If your result is not as good as expected, just quit! DOn't bother doing anything to improve. Just quit i say. That is a Smart move by a Smart government kan.

If we are going to cancel a policy simply because it does not give a desired result in a short time frame, i'm very very disappointed. The victim will be the students going to form 1 next year. They have been learning fraction and simultaneous equation for 5 years, suddenly they will have to learn Pecahan and Persamaan serentak! And then, 5 years later, Smart government decide that "o, our students stupid, not competent in english, must teach in english" then our poor students have to revert back to "oxidation and reduction" instead of Pengoksidaan dan Penurunan. Then in the university students use both, because lecturer also dunno english. Then go international buat malu diri sendiri use rojak english. Then Government yang smartest in the world say our Researchers not competent in english, even when the policy of teaching math and science in english is implemented. Then Smartass government decide to cancel the policy again. The cycle goes on until we are behind vietnam, thailand, and of course, singapore.we are already far behind :(

Do something.

Why i don't believe in friendship

Actually don't like to let my ideas out like dat la...but since holiday too free, wat to do?

Friendship...what is it? Kapal Sahabat. a ship is fragile. any storm, iceberg can easily break it. That's y i don't trust friendship.
Some may use friendship to their advantage. I am one example.

I use friendship to my advantage in my form 6 days.

Due to friendship, i tirelessly studied Biology, using 3 different textbooks and the Net to deepen my knowledge, in order to help explain to my friends and help them understand better.

At that time, of course, they are my friends. Good friends, in fact. So u can say the friendship is very strong then.

One question is, where are they NOW?

After STPM, everybody walk their way. I go and read Medicine. Frankie go and read Microbiology. Desmond, Jin Guan and Hong Kiat go to read chemistry. Another number go to some other colleges and universities.

What happen here is, people say that human must move on with their life(ok, at least Frankie said this). I beg to differ. Human must go on with their life but not once must he forget his roots. He or she must not forget his old friends, whom have gone through sweet and sour with them together. Old friends are the ones who will really help you are in trouble.(theoritically la...)

I'm not saying that my friends are not good friends. They were.

during the first year in university, we exchange greetings of forwarded messages via sms. Almost every festival, we do that. Sampai credit handphone almost habis and outbox handphone also penuhwith greetings

2nd year, ada kurang sikit but still ok la...at least the one who u sent forward message to will reply. At least outbox is half full.

3rd year, you send 10 messages, only 3 reply. some say they busy. some say they do this do that. When you holiday, you try to go meet up with them, dah kata sibuk exam pulak. Hari raya pun exam aiz-_-". Only 1 or 2 of your frens remain la....these are your best frens

i wondering what will happen in 4th year, 5th year and so on. Ni baru 3rd year, half of the population of frens dah hilang entah ke mana.

So, where is the "ship" yang evybody loves to say? Last time tiba tiba will get 1 forward message via SMS with one big big "FRIENDSHIP FOREVER". Itu semua karut. No ship last forever.

Reflecting thus, there is no such thing called friendship forever. There is no such thing as friendship. if you really believe in friendship, go find it when you are in trouble. The ship will sail away without you most of the time : ) Trust me.

Human

Last monday i was boarding on the LRT station on the way to KL central when i notice one thing that really disappoint me.

An old man, with 2 bags in his hand, was standing because all the sit is occupied. No one bother to offer their sits to him. No one at all. And a group of sungai wang chao ah bengs was chattering away happily, not even bothering to take note of their surrounding.
This is not the worst thing. A nice guy from about 4 meters away from that old pakcik finally noticed him. He got up,walked over to the pakcik, and offered it to the pakcik who gladfully accepted. but before he could pick up his bags to walk over, a girl, 18 year old at most, with her stupid yellow headphones on, take the sit without even asking!
The girl, i have noticed, have been standing near the nice guy and have even SAW him walk over to offer his sit to the old man. Assuming she is not blind, surely she can do better than "rampas"ing a sit from an old pakcik!

What annoys me the most is, she saw that the guy meant to offer his seat to the poor old pakcik, not to her, who is young, fit(although fat). She's not even pregnant. And she's happily listening and humming away to her stupid musics from her stupid fat headphone, enjoying the seat which is meant for an old man who deserves it. Doesn even feel sorry or guilty for the poor old man.

Its not that i want to bising bising regarding small matter. my sisters will say "biasalah, orang malaysia". But this girl is wat i call a really "tak tahu malu" sort of human. Bad upbringing. Got eye never use, got ear go put headphone listen to stupid music until the brain become numb.Useless human.

I don't blame her. After all, she may have scored an A1 in her Pengetahuan Moral kan...Thats the product of Moral. : )

Describing

Now our education emphasize so much on memorising facts such that a student become rigid.

This bring problem to the students especially when they're in tertiary education level where memorising is useless.

I can only give example from a medical faculty point of view. In pathology, frequently slides are given to students to be interpreted. Students find this difficult because they are not used to describing.

But students can change this. Although they're not taught how to describe in school, they can practice everywhere. For example, when they see Petronas Twin tower, try to describe what you saw. What is it's shape? How tall is it? is it well lighted? Is it separate or combined? If combined, by what means and at wwhich part is it combined together? Thats the way.

understanding History

ask any medical student what History is, they will tell you history of presenting illness la,Medical history surgical history family history obs and gynae history social history and dunno what else history

Ask a for 4 student what is history, immediately the procerus muscle contract and they say :boring subject

Why? Because in SPM level, no core subject is hated more than Pengetahuan Moral and Sejarah. Why? The way they ask questions in sejarah makes no sense and doesn't allow students to say what they think. It is very Rigid. and it will lead students to think that sejarah is just another memorising subject where all you need to do is to memorise facts. The question sound like this : Apakah perbezaan antara kerajaan agragria dengan kerajaan maritim?--> this kind of question relies only on memory,it does not measure the maturity or critical thinking of the student at all. And this question is useless to say the least. Why do i say so? Alright, just say the student know the difference between agragria and maritim. So what? What use is this knowledge in today's world? The student may score an A1 for knowing this, and then what happen? The student will forget it, not even a trace of agragria or maritim in his head. Because he or she have regurgitate it onto SPM paper!

Another question that is frequently asked in the objective part of examination is what year some events happen. This is an equally nonsensical question. Take this for example : Pada tahun apakah stamford raffles membuat perjanjian dengan SUltan johor berkenaan singapura?ok, if the student know what year the agreement happen, so what? He gain nothing from it. What's the point of asking this type of question? To test knowlege? What good does the knowlege on when an event occur? If the event occur 10 years later or 2 years earlier, does it make any difference? In the above question, no matter when the agreement between Johor sultan and Raffles takes place, the incident have happened: Singapore is taken by Raffles. this is more important than asking what year it happen!!!!!

while writing this i dah meluap luap because having taken the history paper myself in spm, i find that it can be applied in many ways in our daily life(especially now, when the politics have turned ugly), but due to the way question is asked in exams for so many years, everybody upon graduating from SPM everybody declare: History=memorising=useless.

So, instead of asking, bilakah Malayan union ditubuhkan or siapa yang tubuhkan malayan union, which rely purely on memory, i suggest history questions be more orientated towards the application of the lesson learnt from the historical event. Example :

Instead of asking bilakah malayan union ditubuhkan, the question should ask "Malayan union ditubuhkan pada tahun so&so dan dibubarkan pada tahun so&so. Apakah pengajaran yang boleh kita pelajari dari pembubaran itu dan bagaimana kita boleh mengelakkan kejadian yang sama dari berulang?" These sound more reasonable, at least, the students can use their critical thinking rather than regurgitating out whatever they memorise. They can apply their knowlegde of history, lesson from the history, into today's world.

another question: Instead of asking : Nyatakan kesan rusuhan kaum 13 Mei 1969, we should ask, apakah peranan generasi muda dalam mengelakkan berlakunya kejadian seumpama, or cadangkan langkah langkah untuk memastikan kejadian di atas tidak berulang.

TEaching method should also be changed. I remember last time, in my form 3, my sejarah teacher question everybody regarding history. Her question sound like that:
Siapa yang memerintah Jepun sebelum Meiji?
I find this absurd. Ok ok i know its Shogun, so what? i think, if she want to ask question, ask something like that?
Antara Shogun dan Meiji, yang mana satu yang anda rasa berkesan dalam pemerintahan sebuah negara? Jelaskan.--> this stimulate critical thinking! instead of knowing who perintah who before when!

Putting all in a nutshell, i think its time History teaching and learning method be reviewed. History is important.

Look at our country now, not one of the politicians have learn from history. History shown that external "campur tangan" bring detrimental effect on sovereignity of our country, but yet 1 or 2 politician go around the world, getting help from the US to speak for him when he got arrested, asking the whole world to speak againts our nation's laws , just to become the premier.

And someone in penang trying to show his "kejantanan" by giving seditious remarks about other race during his ceramah and refusing to apologise.

Why did all these happen?

Because they MEMORISE history, they never LEARN from history.

Ask them when british invade Malaya, they will proudly tell u.

Ask them when racial riot happen, they will more proudly and loudly tell you as well.

But ask them what they learn from history, they give u BULLSHIT. Thats how education have failed us.

Moral

Very accurate and eye opening opinion regarding moral education.
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/9/27/focus/2131627&sec=focus

I am one of those students, not too long ago(2003), who was forced to memorise and regurgitate the nilai nilai moral to face the Pendidikan moral exam.
I can remember them till now. There are 16 main nilai and 82(or 86?) sub nilai then. The syllabus have change after my year, so i don't know how many nilai the badge after me have to memorise.
Here's some of them. To my friends reading this, surely you will remember how we used to memorise word for word the nilai, and also memorise the kata kunci for each nilai.

"Baik hati, berdikari, hemah tinggi, hormat menghormati, kasih sayang.... etc etc".

The marking system is ridiculous. For example, if the question ask you what is the moral value shown by a person who recycle items, you must answer "sayang kepada alam sekeliling!" If only you answer "cinta kepada alam sekeliling" or "sayang kepada alam sekitar" you will be marked wrong, not even 1/2 marks will be given. Most of us ask why? Teacher will say "because must be precise!"
Another ridiculous reason for deducting marks is if you say "patuh kepada ketepatan waktu" instead of "patuh kepada ketepatan masa" you will get 0 marks as well.
There are many other similar technical reasons to deduct marks.
(i still remember this because this is my "mistake" in the exam, although linguistically there is no difference in the meaning of the two phrases at all)

They will deduct marks for us using words of similar meaning but different from the marking scheme. But imagine, in the essay question, you can write all the nilai moral and they will turn a blind eye and only select the correct one! Me for instance, wrote all the 16 nilai murni, together with 8 other nilai murni which i think relevant, in my essay question. And guess what, i score A1 in the paper hahhahahaha...They must have admired my regurgitation skills: )

I am a product of our moral education system. I scored A1 in Moral paper. So can i go around and claim that i'm "holier than thou" to others who have scored a2,b3 and other grades? Of course not, because everyone who took the paper knew that it is a joke, a paper which test nothing more than student's memory. We only take it because we have to.

All the moral values that i have, i proclaim, does not come from any sort of exam oriented formal education. Moral and other values is learnt in the environment, informally. Our parents teach us to help those in need. Do we need to memorise we have to "baik hati" or "bersimpati" in order to understand? These words are meaningless without understanding and feeling the value themselves. We will never know what "sweet" taste is like if we merely memorise the word "sweet". We must eat some sweet things ourself and feel it, then we will remember for life!

In my opinion, there need not be one big moral paper. Moral can be incorporated, informally in school and asessed by teachers and peers. Every good things, such as leadership, empathy, willingness to help etc should be given merit and at the end of the year, rewarded. Those who have no or few merits should be monitored for improvement, and if not satisfactory, investigation carried out as to why the student act in that manner. Counselling given instead of scolding or punishment. in other words, theres no need for stupid regurgitation of so called "moral values" which is nothing more than meaningless words, at least to the students.

Frankly, i tell you, u remember most of the nilai moral i learnt in Pengetahuan moral, but what use does it do if i do not practice it?

Review the Moral education. Eliminate it if possible. Students nowadays have so many things to remember, especially in subjects like History and biology.

Talking about History , i have something to say about that to....later la...

Concerned Citizen but Unconcerned human

I read with total disbelieve the following article: Stop whining, local docs http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/8/12/focus/22057275&sec=focus

This so called concerned citizen is what i called an empty can. With his/her shallow knowledge on the duties and responsibilities of a doctor, he/she started to compare the medical graduate with other graduates.

For a start, to gain entry into a medical faculty at local universities, the minimum requirement is the maximum, i.e. you must at least get a 4.00 pointer in STPM. I dare concerned citizen to say that scoring 4 flat in STPM is easy.

unConcerned citizen make much noise saying housemen earn rm6000 a month even if they just graduate. Did unConcerned Citizen know how many years a doctor must study, how many months per year, how many weeks in a month, how many days in a week, how many hours in a day they must train to become doctor? Do concerned citizen know how many hours per on call duty a housemen must do? Do concerned citizen know how many minutes housemen rest or how many meals they eat? Do concerned citizen know how many scoldings(from consultants, seniors, nurses and even patients) the housemen have to endure in their practice? No! Instead, concerned citizen is only concerned about a doctors and housemens getting paid too much! Concerned citizen tried to compare the pay with other graduates. How can he/she compare medics with others?

For a start, medical graduates study 5 long years in university compared to other graduates who only study a mean of 3 years. By the time medical graduates graduate and become a housemen, they still drive their trustee old Kancil, while their friends from other fields are already driving BMWs.

Concerned citizen say that rm6000 for a fresh grad is very high. I dare concerned citizen, try to do housemen work for one week. See whether rm6000 is high or not.

Most housemen dont mind about their pay being too low for their 30 hour job because they are passionate about their profession. But that does not mean that their pay is reflective of their job. If the pay reflect the job done, the housemen's pay have to be rm 120000. Imagine that

Concerned citizen, i'm not concerned whether or not you read this. Shut up and don't talk about things u don't know.

100 days

it's been 100 days since mum succumb to her cancer.. and its been 2 month since i last came back to melaka for a long holiday(1 week oso jadi la.)

People say that time can make people adapt and cope with losses. But for me, time did nothing to help me cope wif the lost of my mum. Instead, i miss her more and more as time pass.

When i'm alone at home, i felt empty. The house is just not the same without mum. Everytime i came back, i half expect to hear her busy in the kitchen washing the dishes or preparing dinner or lunch. Every afternoon at 2 o clock, i expect her to turn on the TV to watch her favourite indonesian drama, followed by the hokkien drama which she never get to know the ending. at 8 o clock, i automatically change the tv channel to TV3, just like how mum used to do to watch her buletin utama.
when i go out to buy lunch, i automatically buy all her favourite foods, such as chicken rice, char kuay teow, from all her favourite stalls. When i eat, i think of how she loved the food

the house just isn't the same anymore without mum around...

School uniform too sexy? Or is it a sexist group?

I read with ultimate surprise that a university student gave a comment that school uniform are "sexy and encourage premarital sex and rape". I shall call her "The Girl" in this post.

This silly girl here obviously have nothing better to do but think about sex even in her group meeting. Can't they discuss something more useful in the meeting? Why they keep harping on petty issues when matters such as declining standard of english are far more important!

I'm a young man,and was a student not too many years ago. I am surrounded by my female classmates everyday. But I did NOT EVEN NOTICE how sexy their attire are. I did notice the bra straps but think, what sort of man gets turn on merely by looking at a bra strap?maybe its The Girl, if she's a male haha. Maybe the mere sight of male's underwear turn her on!careful guys haha

So shallow minded,so disappointing statement coming from a leader of university students. I don't expect this school uniform become an issue, but it did. How The Girl want the girls to dress then? Use thick material? Cover them from head to toe?

A rapist don't care how you dress to rape you. There's a case of a very well covered lady getting raped and killed in a bus. There's a case of a girl getting tied to a tree with her own tudong before getting raped.

As for premarital sex, I don't know how The Girl get into the conclusion that school uniform encourage premarital sex. (maybe it's her experience,i don't know haha)If that is true, i most probably have had at least 120 pre marital sex by now!

Please, say something constructive instead of harping on issues that's not even fit to be mentioned of. Education is more important, not how women dress up la,sex this sex that. STOP THINKING ABOUT SEX, go to work..

Something is not right, wait a minute,a hell lot of things is not right!!

This post is about malignancy, not the malignancy growing in a human's body but a malignancy growing in our society these days. It is disheartening to read the newspaper everyday only to notice more and more unwise policy being implemented. here's some of them
1) To curb rice shortage, eat less rice-very good suggestion indeed. if one day we have fabric shortage,we have to wear less clothings! If water shortage, drink less water! If we have shortage of brain power(brain drain), use less brain!! get the idea?
2) To prevent oversea trained doctors from staying overseas, dun send them overseas-this is another ridiculous suggestion. I remember reading in the past few years, an endocrinologist trained in the prestigious Mayo clinic in the US is denied a job here in Malaysia because he is told he is"overqualified". And now the government is complaining there is shortage of sub specialist because all of them prefer to stay overseas! For heaven's sake, don't these politician have any brains at all? or is their frontal cortex missing?
3)The students did badly in math and science because they are in english. So,convert them back to the Bahasa Malaysia.- so,this is another brilliant suggestion by our beloved education minister. As the saying goes,"if u can't beat them, join them". Really ridiculous. In my time(10 years ago), when the paper is in Bahasa, there is less student who score straight A in UPSR in my school compared to now(when the paper is in English). Moreover, looking at the standard of english among the university students, converting math and science back into BM is like rubbing salt to the wound. only one word: atrocious
4) Angkasawan- ok really, what the hell is the result of the experiments presumably conducted by our very own ANGKASAWAN? I remember them saying "the result will be made public next month"(they said that several month ago). I am really curious about the microbiology experiment,so please someone tell me the results!!
5)Stopping all mega projects in Penang because she is "an opposition state"- come on la, all the states are MALAYSIAN! The federal government seem to think the rakyat will see "tiada kemajuan di bawah pemerintahan DAP di Penang" if they stop the mega projects there. Do you really think the rakyat is that stupid? We have eyes we can see what you are doing! DON't show your hypocrite attitude especially now that 5 states is under the opposition!! Learn your lesson, be fair!

and i recently heard that a junior of mine failed to get his way into Matriculation program although he scored 12A1s in his SPM. Once again, i think he is considered "overqualified":). He opted to do STPM, and i'm sure he will do very well. After all, STPM is recognised worldwide while Matriculation is only useable here in Malaysia. Good luck to you! Hopefully when your turn came to apply for university, you will not be seen as "overqualified"! hehe

I really love my country, so please, someone do something before we turn from a developing country to a poor one. Malaysia memang boleh. Just like a battery that have potential electrical energy in it, so does Malaysia have the potential to develop.BUT,just like the wiring must be correctly connected to the battery in order to light the bulb, likewise Malaysians have to be wise and do correct policy in order to achieve Vision 2020. Malaysia boleh!! come on malaysians buck up!:)

An introduction to malignancy..from the brain of a MS

Malignancy,neoplasm--> a group of cells with unlimited growth potential and whose growth is uncoordinated with that of normal cells, normally unresponsive to growth inhibitors or excessively responsive to growth factors.

cancer- "crab" due to the uncoordinated growth pattern of malignant tumor resembling the way crabs walk

TUMOR-->a group of cells which grow excessively creating a mass, not necessarily malignant

There are at least7 difference between a benign and malignant tumor

malignant- margins are poorly demarcated, irregular infiltrative growth pattern, usually red and hemorrhagic(angry looking),surface are irregular, able to metastasis, ulceration, capable of invasion

HALLMARKs of neoplasm: GRAAAM
G-self sufficient in GROWTH SIGNAL
R-unlimited REPLICATIVE POTENTIAL
A-abnormal APOPTOSIS(programmed cell death)
A-unresponsive to ANTIGROWTH signal
A-excessive ANGIOGENESIS(blood vessel formation)
M-capable of METASTASIS(spread from 1 organ to the others)

Causes of neoplasm: Physical agent-Radiation,UV light
Chemical agent-nitrites,oxidising agent e.g. Hydrogen peroxide,
Biological agent-virus e.g. HPV type 16 and 18(cervical adenocarcinoma),bacteria e.g. H.pylori(gastric carcinoma),parasite e.g. Schistosoma.haematobium(Urothelioma)

Terminologies:
carcinoma-neoplasm of epithelial tissue
sarcoma-neoplasm of connective tissue
adenocarcinoma-carcinoma with glandular pattern of cell arrangement
squamus cell carcinoma-carcinoma with squamus(layered) pattern of cell arrangement

benign tumor is recognised by adding -oma to the word,e.g. lipoma(benign growth of the fat tissue),angioma(benign growth of vessels)
However there are exceptions-->e.g.lymphoma(malignant growth of the lymphoid cells),astrocytoma(malignant growth of astrocytes),ependymoma(malignant growth of ependymal cells)

some special names--> leukemia(cancer of white blood cells),carcinomatosis peritonei(advanced stage of cancer involving the whole peritoneum),carcinomatosis cerebri(involving whole cranium),pseudomyxoma peritonei(excessive accumulation of mucin in peritoneum now thought to most likely originate from a appendicical tumor),struma ovarii(presence of foreign tissue e.g. thyroid in the ovary)

in the next post, the neoplasm that i am most familiar with will be discussed. Although this tumor is very very very rare, it happens,to my mum. The one cancer which killed her: Duodenojejunal adenocarcinoma leading to carcinomatosis peritonei. stay tune!

Hello

this page is created to explain about the various type of cancer, share experience regarding cancer, and of course to enable me to use my time usefully(rather than playing jedi everyday).
